Corporate Philanthropy
Giving back to the community…
We’re all in this together
At Eagle, the commitments we make to our clients and contractors have become increasingly well known. What are less well known, perhaps, are the commitments we make to the communities in which we live and work.
For a number of years, we allocated a large percentage of our annual budget to many worthy causes and worthwhile organizations right across Canada. For example, we have made corporate donations to the Children’s Aid Foundation’s affiliates in many cities and we have also been a major supporter of local food banks.
A focused approach
As our ability to donate increased and as our reputation as good corporate citizens evolved, we observed an increase in the requests for corporate donations. As a result, we adopted a “charity of choice” from among many worthwhile recipients. After much consideration, the United Way was chosen as the recipient of the majority of our corporate donations. The bulk of our funding support is given directly to United Way and is distributed to affiliate organizations throughout the country to support local initiatives. As a national company, we have chosen to contribute to a national organization that impacts the communities in which we operate.
Eagle has been involved with the United Way since late 2006. Starting small but recognizing that this was an organization that fits with Eagle’s culture, the company generated its first donation by instituting an electronic holiday card campaign in lieu of traditional cards and gifts. Since then, Eagle has steadily increased its monetary contributions, as well as involvement through its staff with a very successful payroll deduction campaign, silent auction fundraisers organized by employees at the branch level and a company-wide weekly jeans Friday in support of the United Way which also provides additional funding. Eagle’s CEO, Kevin Dee and President, Janis Grantham are also major gift donors at a personal level.
And there’s more
That doesn’t mean that other charities are left out in the cold, of course. While the majority of our corporate gifts are given to the United Way, Eagle continues to support a diverse group of organizations involved in a number of different interest areas including arts and culture, education and health. Today, some of the many great events and programs we support annually include: The Children’s Aid Foundation, MASC’s Young Author’s Conference, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada.
Eagle also has a history of helping young Canadians develop and achieve their goals through scholarships and individual support. Currently, Eagle is sponsoring Conor O’Brien, a young, top-Canadian cyclo-cross racer competing at the international level.
We also continue to donate in all of our branch cities to local charity golf tournaments, auctions and other fundraisers. In Ottawa, for example, you can count on Eagle registering a team for the annual H.O.P.E. volleyball tournament which supports over 100 different charities.
Requests for funding…
Eagle continues to support a diverse group of organizations involved in a number of different interest areas including arts and culture, education and health.
In fact, we welcome requests for support throughout the year. There is no formal grant application form, but requests must be submitted in writing on official letterhead and should include:
- a brief description of the organization including its legal name, history, activities, and purpose
- the amount being requested;
- a description of the purpose for which the grant is requested; and
- the percentage of funds that will be directly allocated to the cause.
All requests are given careful consideration.
