Three Ottawa companies are among the latest recipients of Deloitte’s 50 Best Managed Companies award, with five other local firms keeping their places on the list for another consecutive year.
Desjardins Healthcare Group, N. Harris Computer Corp. and high-tech staffing firm Veritaaq were named as three of the 50 new winners of the award, which is now in its 16th year. Harris and Veritaaq had previously won the best-managed award but did not stay on the list for consecutive years.
More Ottawa companies were named to the list in 2009 than in the previous year, when there were only two honourees.
The 50 best-managed companies, each of which have revenues of more than $10 million, together generated $6.4 billion in combined revenue, had an average revenue increase of 43 per cent between 2006 and 2009, and employed more than 28,000 people across the country.
“These companies are successful today because of their commitment to strong planning, understanding the market and adapting to their customers’ needs,” said Douglas Rankin, Deloitte partner and Ottawa regional leader for the program, in a statement. “Even two years ago, these companies were building contingency plans in the event of economic softness.”
Several local companies also requalified for the honour, with two companies attaining the highest ‘Platinum Club’ designation for maintaining their Best Managed status for more than six consecutive years.
Human resources firm excelHR, MaxSys Staffing and Consulting, and Arnprior-based construction company were numbered among the requalified companies for retaining the designation for two additional years, the report showed.
Meanwhile, Platinum Club member Eagle Professional Resources – whose CEO Kevin Dee was OBJ’s CEO of the Year in 2006 – marked its 10th year on the Best Managed list. Modern Niagara Group Inc. also qualified for Platinum Club status.
