Two Ottawa-area companies have been honoured among the 50 best-managed in the country in 2007.

Downtown business services company MaxSys Consulting and Staffing and Arnprior-based construction company M. Sullivan and Son Ltd. were named on the list of companies which optimized revenue and income in the face of recent economic turbulence.

Also on the list was Brockville’s MLE Equipment, which manufactures equipment to control industrial pollution.

“This year’s winners leveraged their entrepreneurial passion to drive their revenue, profits and value in the face of triple-digit oil prices, a strong Canadian dollar, and mixed economic signals south of the border,” stated Mike Runia, Deloitte partner and National Capital Region leader of the Best Managed program.

The list, now in its 15th year, included such diverse businesses as luxury clothing retailer Holt Renfrew, laser eye surgery company LASIK MD, and beer brewer Great Western Brewing Company. Combined sales for the 50 companies were $8.5 billion, with average sales growth of 31 per cent.

Several Ottawa companies also requalified for the honour, with human resources firm excelHR and Harris Computer Systems making the list for another year in a row.

Local construction company Modern Niagara Group Inc. and human resources firm Eagle Professional Resources once again qualified for “Platinum Club” status, having maintained their Best Managed Company status for more than six years. It was Eagle’s ninth year on the list.

“The Eagle team is extremely proud and grateful to be the recipient of such prestigious recognition, which rewards our efforts to continuously strive for excellence,” said Eagle CEO Kevin Dee in a statement. “The 50 Best sponsors are world-class companies who dedicate time, resources and money to promote and support excellence in Canadian business through this program, and we are thankful for their contributions, support and for the opportunity to be associated with them.”
