MASC Young Authors’ and Illustrators’ Conference Inspires Children’s Creativity
Authors and Illustrators Travel from Across Canada to Educate Children from Across the Region
April 20, 2009 (Ottawa) – Eagle Professional Resources (Eagle) is proud to sponsor MASC’s Young Authors’ and Illustrators’ Conference for the ninth consecutive year. This popular event, held at Confederation High School on April 20, 21, and 22, 2009, gives children the opportunity to connect with their creativity and learn by working with some of Canada’s best children’s authors and illustrators.
This is the eighteenth year that MASC has organized the conference. Thousands of students across the region are invited to submit applications. Approximately 600 successful applicants (200 new students per day) are selected to attend the three day event. Each student will have the opportunity to attend two of eight possible workshops. The workshops are incredible learning forums that educate, as well as inspire children to take their natural talents to a new level. At the end of the day, children will take home the memories of an incredible day coupled with some amazing knowledge that they will hold with them forever. The conference also hosts a book fair throughout the day with the opportunity to have books autographed from the professionals running the workshops. This year’s participating authors and illustrators include: Alice Priestly, Bill Slavin, Charles De Lint, Joanne K. Jefferson, Judith Christine Mills, Tim Wynne-Jones, Jacqueline Guest, and Joan Fitzgerald McCurdy.
The response from the students is always phenomenal and many will recount this amazing and memorable experience right into their adult years. The feedback from participants speaks for itself and last year’s conference included comments like, “Today was one of the best days of my life!” , “…(this conference) has put me one step closer to my writing dream!”, “This place has truly made me a better writer.”
