I think that is a great question. Most of us need to work, but are you just working for a pay cheque or are you doing something that you like?
If you are just doing the bare minimum to keep below the radar and pick up a pay cheque every couple of weeks then you need to give that a lot of thought. If 40 hours a week, plus commute time is painful labour just to pay the bills, then you need to change something.
Do you need to change jobs? Most likely not … chances are, if you are reading this blog, that you are in a reasonable job.
Do you need to change your attitude? Most likely … because it is what goes on inside your head that determines your mood, your attitude, your future!
Not too many people get to be the boss right out of school … so most of us need to “earn our stripes”, need to gain the experience and work our way up the ladder. As we do that we find ourselves in many types of situations, and there will always be something to complain about if you look for it. Conversely, there will always be something good to find if that is what you choose to do.
I have had some “interesting” experiences in my career, but today I own and run one of Canada’s most successful professional staffing companies. In my youth I, nor anyone else, would have considered such a thing was possible, but I would also not change one thing about my life … because it is your life experiences that determine where you end up.
So Kevin’s advice to you … find the things to like in your job, develop a plan for your future and find ways to get something from all of your experiences along the way.
Hating your job is just too much negative energy!
