Sleep or Exercise ...?

The alarm clock went off at 6am this morning, my third day back at work after a long holiday break ... it was not a welcome sound! It was time to get up and exercise and today was a struggle ... so was yesterday and the day before! The easy thing would be to turn it off, turn over and enjoy another hour in bed ... BUT I leapt out of bed and exercised.

We all have these "decision points" and your choices will have an impact on you and the person that you become. We can all choose to take the easy path ... but the big question is "what do you really want"?

The following are SOME of the things you need to be successful in various parts of your life.

If you want to be healthy then there are some basic things you need to do ... eat well, exercise, get enough sleep and generally look after yourself.

If you want to be successful in your job ... work hard, bring a "can do" attitude to work and be willing to learn.

If you want to be successful in your relationships ... never take more than you give, invest time, listen and be empathetic.

If you want to have success across all areas of your life ... achieve true balance ... then you need to work on all of these things. You can't do that without applying self discipline to the problem. You need a plan ... and ideally that plan will have goals and for each of those goals will be action items.

One of my current goals is to lose some weight and get down to my "fighting weight" of 175lb ... something that has eluded me (narrowly at times) for the past 20 years. Once I get there I intend to stay there ... but that will become the next goal.

Which brings me back to this morning ... if you want to achieve anything in life then it requires self discipline and sacrifice of some kind. I am not going to get to my weight goal without working on my diet and exercise ... which involves discipline and sacrifice. Those are not "sexy" words these days, but achieving goals is very satisfying and for me achieving goals is worth the effort.

This is 2008 ... what achievements will you be proud of this year?
