There are lots of people “faking it”, and everyone has met them … it could be the waitress that is going through the motions, saying all the right things, but you KNOW that this is the last place in the world they want to be; maybe it is the sales clerk; or the receptionist at your company. Can you imagine the affect that has on your business … when everyone coming in the door is greeted by someone who really doesn’t want to be there?
Worse still … it could be you!
People KNOW when you are faking it … your customers know, your boss knows, your colleagues know. If you have any thought of a meaningful career, then you need to be “in the game” whatever it is you are doing. Developing a “habit of faking it” will taint your whole working life!
The interesting thing about this situation is that YOU can change it … all it takes is an attitude switch. You have to make your mind up to really do the job, not go through the motions and given that you have to be there anyway you might as well get into it!
You can look at the following quotes as words to live by … or you can dismiss them as “just words”. Your reaction is a good reflection of your attitude.
“If you think you can, or think you can’t … you are right” … Henry Ford
“Happiness doesn’t depend on any external conditions, it is governed by our mental attitude” … Dale Carnegie.
“Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference” … Winston Churchill.
The picture here shows my 80 year old mother on the back of my motorbike … now there is someone with the right attitude about life! Pinned above my desk at work is a card I received from my mom a few years ago. It has a quote from James Dean … “Dream as if you’ll live forever. Live as if you’ll die today“.
Over to you!
