Many years ago I worked for Bob, who was a very successful partner at a Global consulting company.
One of the reasons I enjoyed working for Bob was that he was VERY clear about his expectations. He also left me alone to reach those expectations ... unless I didn't, in which case I would hear about it!
Clear expectations ... and consequences, go figure!
One of Bob's traits was that he collected "rules" from many different sources, and those that he liked were added toBob's list of rules.
He never claimed to have created them, he just collected them ... and they became part of Bob's legend.
These were rules to live by.
My favorite of all Bob's rules was the classic ... When you are in a hole, stop digging! I heard it from Bob first!
Here are a few others that strike a chord with me. Hope you enjoy them! "
A desk is a dangerous place from which to observe the world."
"The risk of riskless living, is the greatest risk of all"
"What matters is not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog."
"Advice is seldom welcome and those who want it most always like it the least."
"Those who say it can't be done should get out of the way of those doing it."
"Insanity is doing the same thing you've always done and expecting different results."
"He who hesitates ... loses."
"Speed is only useful if you are running in the right direction."
I think Bob knew his 90 or so rules "cold" and he is a very successful guy.
We can ALL benefit from some rules to live by ... maybe even Bob's rules?
