10 Reasons Why I Support Good Causes

Charitable giving is a personal thing, and yet it is a critical contributor to the society in which we live.

If you like our society then in order to preserve it, and even improve it we NEED to contribute.

Below are just ten reasons why I have chosen to support the various causes that I have over the years.

Happiness doesn't result from what we get, but from what we give."

Ben Carson

Why I give!

  1. I am lucky to have the life I have ... others are not so lucky.

  2. I support causes that are meaningful to me ... everyone is affected in some way by cancer, heart disease etc.

  3. I support causes I like, where I can empathise, or where I see a real need.

  4. These causes all need our help, both financially and as volunteers.

  5. Government (any government) cannot solve all of society's problems.

  6. I like our Canadian society and only want it to be better, so I work at that.

  7. I get satisfaction from giving, it makes me feel good about myself.

  8. I meet new, different and interesting people through my involvement with not for profit organisations.

  9. As a leader I want to set a good example. I do not talk about my giving to make people think well of me, I talk about it so that others might follow my example.

  10. I subscribe to the theory that giving will come back in other ways. Certainly I have been very lucky in my life, and I have always tried to give back ... so I have no reason to disbelieve.

"We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give."

Winston Churchill

I think everyone in our society should give back, whether it be time, money ... or preferably both.

We are privileged to live in a free and relatively affluent society. More people helping will only make it that much better.
