We don’t like to think about our lives ending, but it is one certainty that we can’t escape.
The reality is none of us are getting out alive!
When you are approaching that time what do you think will be important to you?
“The only certainty life contains is death.”
Some people might suggest that the ability to look back on experiences will outweigh the material things we might collect along the way.
Others might be in the camp that suggests he who dies with the most toys wins!
Most people would like to have friends and family with whom they have shared some of those memories.
I think we are all different and we need to decide what is most important to us, and looking at life from the vantage point of our “older” self is not a bad way to make those decisions.
“Design the life you want to live. No more, no less.”
Ask yourself that question, “What will be important to me as I look back on my life?’
How you answer it might well help you decide where you want to focus your energies.
The key for any of us, once we decide what is important, is to put in the required effort to realise those goals.
I am somewhat, and unashamedly, materialistic.
I like nice things and work hard to get them, but I also enjoy positive experiences and work to enjoy those too.
If you want toys, you need a career that will support your habit!
If you want to travel you need to find a way to accomplish that goal.
If you want a good relationships, any relationships, they take work too.
Whatever it is that will enrich your life will require effort.
If you want memories of success and accomplishment that allows you to say, “Yes, I have had a good life!” then you need to have a plan and go for it.
If you want to look back on positive experiences with friends and family then you need to create those memories.
Relationships, like everything else worthwhile in life, take investment.
What memories are you going to create on your life journey?
Are you putting in the effort you need in order to live the life you want?
“I’d rather regret the things I have done, than regret the things I haven’t done.”

I write these articles with the intent of sharing MY experience and knowledge gained during MY life journey. From the 16 year old joining the Royal Navy, through many incarnations, to the grey haired guy who built a business. If you find a nugget here, then I am happy. If the message offends you then I apologise, that was never my intent. I know and recognize there are many people and groups who have a far bigger challenge than I have had and I only wish you well.
