If you want to learn a new skill then you put significant effort into learning it, endure the times when you feel like you’ll never get there and do it all again.
If you want to have a good relationship with your significant other then you need to learn that the “tough conversations” involving honesty, maybe a few tears and even hurt feelings can actually avoid the much worse scenario of built up resentment and perhaps worse … apathy.
If you want to be a good manager then you need to expect people to challenge you, allow them to question and probe at your decisions … you do not want to surround yourself with “yes people”.
If you want your organisation to be strong you need everybody to contribute, to challenge and to “fight” (professionally) to be heard and think through arguments. The most progressive organizations will not make people feel unheard, will not stifle that creativity, will not “dictate” the answer.
They will however expect everyone to “get on board” when the arguing is done and the decisions have been made.
Do NOT follow blindly;
Do NOT “settle“;
Do NOT stifle your ideas and thoughts; and
Embrace those uncomfortable moments, because they save uncomfortable hours (and years)!
