Eagle Helps Connect Top Authors and Illustrators with Eastern Ontario Youth
Professional Staffing Company Proud to Sponsor 23rd MASC Young Authors’ & Illustrators’ Conference
Ottawa, ON, April 14, 2014 – Canada’s leading professional staffing company, Eagle Professional Resources (Eagle), is proud to once again be teaming up with MASC for the 23rd annual Young Authors’ and Illustrators’ Conference. The three day conference, which kicks off tomorrow, will be host to eight of the country’s top authors and illustrators as they lead workshops for students from grades 4-8.
The sold-out 2014 conference will be held at the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum for the second year in a row, with expected attendance of over 600 young students from schools across Eastern Ontario. Attendees will participate in two out of eight possible half day workshops led by established professionals including Vikki Vansickle, Arthur Slade, Richard Scrimger, Marsha Skrypuch, Lesley Livingston, Ruth Ohi, Marthe Jocelyn and Martin Springett.
In addition to Eagle’s financial contribution to this educational event, Eagle also helps by providing volunteers. Eagle’s Management has participated both at the board level of MASC and the committee level for the Young Authors’ and Illustrators’ Conference. The company also encourages staff in the Ottawa office to volunteer during the conference by offering a paid volunteer day. Throughout the day, Eagle volunteers help with registration, organizing students and supervising lunch.
“The Young Authors’ and Illustrators’ Conference brings out a passion for the arts in the attending children and that is why we support this event,” said Eagle CEO, Kevin Dee. “If that kind of passion can be encouraged and harnessed then we are really investing in future leaders. Full marks to MASC and their wonderful volunteers for making this happen. Without their dedication, there would be no conference.”
“The MASC Young Authors and Illustrators Conference is a special time when students can learn by working with their literary heroes, doing things less measured, less restrained, more open-ended. And, it’s a lot of fun! But don’t be deceived, this kind of fun is hard work, requiring intense self-discipline and strong communications skills,” said Audrey Churgin, MASC’s Executive Director. “Thanks so much to Eagle for sharing and supporting young people’s work in the literary arts at this conference!”
This is the 13th year that Eagle has been the presenting sponsor of the Young Authors’ and Illustrators’ conference and, in that time, it is estimated they have connected over 7,000 young students with stimulating authors and illustrators. Since 2001, the feedback from students has been consistently positive and energetic. When asked about last year’s conference, one student replied “My day encouraged me to continue chasing my dream of writing and publishing a book and I thank you for that!” “I learned how to be a great author and I met some amazing authors,” said another participant. “This was a life changing experience.”
MASC, a registered charitable organization, delivers multicultural art programs in English and in French throughout eastern Ontario and western Quebec. Through its activities with more than 65 professional artists and subsidies to underfunded schools, last year MASC reached over 100,000 students in 300 schools from 19 school boards.
