Eagle-Sponsored Young Authors’ & Illustrators’ Festival Returns to Ottawa

27th Annual MASC Event Expected to Inspire Hundreds of Children

Ottawa, ON, April 16, 2018 – Once again this year, MASC’s Young Authors’ and Illustrators’ Festival is returning to the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum in Ottawa, and Canadian staffing company Eagle Professional Resources (Eagle) is proud to continue its role as the event’s presenting sponsor. The festival, now in its 27th year, kicks off tomorrow and will continue through Thursday. Each day, a new set of ambitious students from grades 4-8, with a passion for writing and drawing, will attend workshops lead by some of Canada’s top authors and illustrators.

This year’s lineup of professionals includes authors Melanie Florence, Sharon Jennings, Hélène Bourdeau, Jeff Ross and Shane Peacock, as well as illustrators Brian McLachlan, Doretta Groenendyk, and Gabrielle Grimard. Each one will run two half-day workshops on each of the festival days. Students will have the opportunity to learn from the experts, ask questions and gain insight in how they can achieve their own goals in art and literature.

After nearly three decades, it is no surprise that MASC has helped inspire thousands of young students across Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec. Every year feedback from participants is tremendously positive.  Some of last year’s feedback included:

“I enjoyed MASC so much and was honoured to be part of such a life changing experience. It changed the way I write and learn in a positive manner. Thank you for such an amazing event!”

“It was an amazing experience. I felt inspired to write more and More and MOre and MORe and MORE! It was fun to meet kids who like to write and to meet real authors. This was a true gift, and if one day I do get published, I will thank the MASC Young Authors and Illustrators Conference.”

This is the 20th year Eagle is playing an active role in sponsoring the event. Kevin Dee, former CEO and current Chairman of the Board at Eagle, was a long-time volunteer at MASC and Eagle’s Director of Marketing, Lisa Murray, has also been involved for a number of years and continues to sit on the Young Authors’ & Illustrators’ Festival committee. “Eagle is proud to continue to play an active role in supporting this event”, said Murray. “When these young, ambitious students leave at the end of the day, you can see the impact that the day has had on them. It is truly inspiring and rewarding.”

As presenting sponsor, Eagle’s contributions go a long way for the Young Authors’ & Illustrators’ Festival. In addition to providing a few extra volunteers and helping cover the costs, the professional staffing company also provides a souvenir for each participant. This year all students will leave with a one-of-a-kind Young Authors’ & Illustrators’ Conference notebook.
