Sometimes it seems like doom and gloom can be all around us … and it is easy to let it drag us down. When the great recession hit in 2008 it seemed that everybody I talked to was focused on the negative affects of the crash. It was a tough time with portfolios losing 40%, 50% or even 60% of their value.
The reality was that there was little we could do about it and worrying wasn’t going to help.
“Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy.” Leo Buscaglia
The only thing we can do is to focus on the positives in our life, and maybe take stock of all the blessings we have. If we think positive thoughts and keep a positive frame of mind it will reduce our stress and we will be more effective in everything that we do.
NEXT … make a list of everything in your life that you should be grateful for … your health, your spouse, your kids, your friends, your job (plenty of people without one), the fact that you were born in a great country, your parents, your upbringing, your boss, your co-workers, Tim Horton’s coffee … anything that you enjoy on a day to day basis, big and small. Keep it around so that you can review it regularly!
Do things that make you feel good, and really be in the moment as you enjoy them.
If there are things that can improve your situation then develop a plan to change them. Things beyond our control are just not worth wasting the mind space.
There are always events and situations that can drag us down, but letting them drag us down serves no useful purpose. Focus on the positive and change the things within your control.
