I was recently at a President’s club meeting and the focus was strategic planning. We were lucky enough to have Denzil Doyle leading the session and he talked about several different types of business planning, including strategic planning. There was not much push back from the dozen or so CEOs around the table about the value of planning!
For the last couple of days I have been tied up in strategic planning meetings for Eagle. We have these meetings every quarter and they are the opportunity to step back from the day to day operational “madness” of running a company. Typically we will spend the time focused either on finding ways to improve our operational effectiveness or developing strategies for the future that will allow us to leap ahead.
The importance of planning is evident for any business, but is equally important for individuals. Strategic planning concepts can be applied by anyone. What are my strengths? What are my weaknesses? Where do I want to be a year from now, five years from now? What action items can I take to meet those goals?
Denzil Doyle is a big fan of planning for any size company, I am a big fan of individuals doing the same. If you have goals and action plans you can achieve anything … the strategic planning exercise is just a frame work to develop them!
