It could be as basic as choosing the escalator over the stairs or the extra hour of sleep rather than hitting the gym.
It could be more complex like choosing to accept your first cut of the essay as your final product, rather than taking time to review, correct and improve it to get that better mark.
In the workplace it might be any number of things … poor quality, shortcuts in process or just not enough basic effort.
I would hazard a guess to say that everyone takes the easy way sometimes.
Certainly I am no exception … I have been known to hit that snooze button rather than exercise and to take the escalator rather than the stairs … BUT for me the easy way is not a way of life, it is an occasional “luxury”, or lapse in commitment.
The problem with always taking the easy way is that you apply the same philosophy across your life. First I get lazy with my exercise, then I get lazy with my diet, then I get lazy with my job, then I get lazy with my relationships … before you know it you are not putting “enough” effort into any part of your life.
If you want to succeed to your potential in your career, then you must work HARD … and hopefully SMART!
If you want to have strong relationships then you need to work hard at them too. Put in effort, make compromises, be thoughtful and give more than you take.
If you want to be fit and healthy in your later years you need to put in the effort, exercise, eat healthily and be willing to work harder if things are slipping.
None of this is easy … but the rewards are so much greater for those willing to put in the effort!
