The Two Faces of the Entrepreneur

Quote about entreprneurship from founder of githubIf you are, or have been, an entrepreneur you may recognise yourself.

If you are considering becoming an entrepreneur then this may be something to think about.

Successful entrepreneurs walk a fine line between “looking big” and “operating small”.

What do I mean by that?

1.  Looking big.

Clients want to deal with credible organizations … so it is important to look like a REAL company.

You will hear stories of entrepreneurs who staffed their “office” with friends and relatives to impress a potential client.

You will hear stories of entrepreneurs paying for lunch at a fancy restaurant, while not having enough money for some basics at home.

Entrepreneurs will do what it takes to build their companies … against great odds.

2.  Operating small.

Entrepreneurs need to watch every penny.

They will roll up their sleeves and do whatever it takes, no job is beneath them.

They will keep their feet on the ground … because they have to be willing to do what others will not.

They will hire new resources when they must … or when it is the right strategic move, but they will do it very carefully (a different approach than established businesses).

So … the entrepreneur has two faces

(a) the confident, successful, established business owner that he/she portrays to clients; and

(b) the fiscally restrained, hardworking, “do anything” boss to his employees.

It is a lot of fun to build a company!  You have lots of stories to tell!
