If we want success in our career then we will work a little harder than our “competition”.
If we want to get ahead we need to be constantly learning.
We can’t reach new heights unless we get out of our comfort zone.
In the same way that our muscles grow when we work them hard, our intelligence grows if we work our brain hard and our “life experience” grows when we push our limits.
However … we do all of that because we want to get the most out of life, and if it is ALL about hard work, sacrifice and pushing outside the comfort zone where is the fun in that?
We need to reward ourselves, but there are some things to remember even about that:
1. A special reward is only special if it is an occasional treat, rather than an “expected” treat;
2. It is easy to indulge in too much of a good thing and yes you CAN have too much of a good thing;
3. If you “treat” yourself too much then your willpower will be affected;
Look around at the number of people who “think” they work hard, who “think” they put in long hours but who you “know” are not really working as hard as they think (and they do believe themselves)! That could be you IF you overindulge in the “good stuff”.
Small example … you are on a diet and it is going well, so you have a cheat. The cheat is so good that you have a cheat again the next day and before you know it the diet is gone and you have gained back all that lost weight (and some).
Work hard, work smart, treat yourself … and then work hard and smart again!
