With all of the various hats I wear I manage to meet a lot of people … which for me, is pretty cool. I like people, can usually find the good in most people and find people fascinating. One of the things that intrigues me is how differently people can look at life … and in many ways it is how you look at life that defines who you are, how successful you will be and ultimately your satisfaction with life.
Many people will look at that and give all of the reasons why they have it tough … maybe all the reasons why they didn’t reach their expectations. I can be sympathetic and nod my head, but at the end of the day YOU are the reason you are where you are … good or bad.
Anyone who has had any success has needed help along the way … maybe lots of it, but success starts with the individual however you define success. There are also many, many people who overcome incredible hardship and go on to achieve amazing things.
So what is it that makes the difference? I tend to think its attitude but it is also very easy to change your own attitude, and very hard to change someone else’s attitude!
Some people know what they want, they determine that they are going to get it and go for it! Others don’t have that same drive, are not willing to work for what they want, do not seem to be able to drive themselves towards a goal … even a goal that they really want!
Why is that?
Is it just too hard? I don’t think so because the world is full of examples of people that have overcome obstacles bigger than anyone reading this can dream of. I recently saw a Youtube video of Nick Vujicic, who has no arms and no legs … is a motivational speaker and loves his life! Tell him your issues are tough!
What is is that makes one person want to be the best at what they do and the person next to them just want to survive another day? They both do the same work, they both need to put in the hours, why not strive to do your best and feel good about yourself?
I believe it when people say that motivation comes from within yourself. Others can inspire you, you can find role models and get mentors but at the end of the day you have to motivate yourself.
I often tell people to do it for themselves. Be the best you can be, just for you … you will be amazed at what good things can happen. Worst case you can get a sense of accomplishment.
If you want to be happier, more successful and feel proud of what you do then put in the effort to the best you can.
